What’s Talking Therapy Anyway?
Talking Therapy is exactly what it sounds like, and more! It could involve talking about things in the present or the past, or talking about your worries about the future. It can be a way of making sense of things that have happened, and how those things have changed you and your life.
In a session we might…
Check in about how you’ve been, and how you’re feeling in the here and now. I’ll ask what feels important to you today, and we might make a loose plan for the session. If we’re online, we’ll spend most of our time talking, but in person, we can do all sorts of creative therapeutic activities if that’s what’s best for you.
Is it all just talking?
It doesn’t have to be! We can also play games, draw pictures or use figures to create stories. You might want to try a guided meditation or just bang some drums really hard. Sometimes it can be easier to express our emotions in ways that don’t involve talking. The point is to find ways that make it possible for you to express your emotions and meet your therapeutic goals.
